The entire gite—the Garden Flat, the Upstairs Flat and the House—enjoys an elevated, south-facing position with wonderful views of Cézanne's celebrated Mont Sainte Victoire.
With large windows in every room, the three accommodation options (Garden Flat, Upstairs Flat and entire House) are filled with light, each boasting plenty of outdoor spaces—a garden, covered patio or terraces—to make the most of the Provencal sunshine all year round.
This rental is likely to appeal to you if you are looking for homely charm and comfort, with a decorative style that is a blend of typical Provencal and a more pared-back touch.
The accommodation is surrounded by some of France's most beautiful countryside and villages, meaning you'll also enjoy Chez David if you like the outdoor life, especially walking and cycling (in fact, if you like cycling, follow us on Strava!).
In short, Chez David is a place to recharge your batteries!
But we're also a short car ride from two of France's most fabulous cultural gems—Aix and Avignon—and day trips to the coast at Cassis or Marseilles are also easy.
The gite is an old house typical of the region with lots of steps, which means that—in spite of our best efforts—it is not suitable for people with limited mobility or very young children.
Our gite in the heart of the Luberon is situated in the centre of Vaugines, a peaceful hamlet with a single shop, plus a cafe cum bar and restaurant on the delightful village square.
Vaugines sits atop a hill between the villages of Cucuron and Lourmarin, the final resting place of Albert Camus. One of Vaugines' claim to fame is that parts of Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources were filmed here.
But we're also ideally situated between two of France's most historic, culture-packed towns: Aix and Avignon.
In summer and spring you you can enjoy long, hot days of unbroken sunshine and blue skies... not to mention leisurely evenings eating outside on one of the gite's terraces, in our garden—or on the terrace of the village cafe.
And, of course, the beautiful villages of Cucuron and Lourmarin are just a heartbeat away.
Cycling and walking are two of the favourite pastimes here, together with swimming in the nearby lake at Sannes and horse-riding in and around the village.
Fields of poppies flourish around in May and early June, but it is lavender that is most associated with this part of Provence.
Or maybe sunflowers are more your thing?
And, of course, the region's cultural and historical sites are never far away—Aix or Avignon to name but two.
Our gite is ideally situated for the following exceptional events taking place close to Chez David in 2026:
Music and Wine in the Vineyards of Provence Summer 2025 An enchanting blend of melodies and fine wines amidst the sun‑kissed vineyards of Provence.
Festival d'Avignon July 4—25 The crown jewel of Provence’s cultural calendar, drawing music lovers from across the world.
Festival d'Aix en Provence July 2—21 Unmatched in its operatic prestige, often premiering new works alongside classics.
Le Bonheur Muscical Château de Lourmarin June 2026 Prestigious concerts in the Renaissance château, often followed by convivial buffets on the terrace.
