CHEZ DAVID: A HOME FROM HOME
Our rural gite is tucked away in the heart of the small hamlet of Vaugines in the Luberon Regional Natural Park in Provence.
Renovated to a very high standard in late 2024, this charming self-catering rental offers three accommodation options to suit your needs: you can choose to rent the entire House with garden (for a maximum of 4 guests) or one of its two apartments - the Garden Flat (two guests) or Upstairs Flat (two guests). All the accommodation has at least two terraces.
RENTAL ACCOMMODATION IN THE LUBERON NATURAL PARK
The gite enjoys an elevated, south-facing position with wonderful views of Cézanne's celebrated Mont Sainte Victoire. With large windows in every room, both apartments and the whole house are filled with light, and each accommodation option boasts plenty of outdoor spaces - a garden, covered patio or terraces - to enjoy the Provencal sunshine all year round.
This rental is likely to appeal to you if you are looking for homely charm and comfort, with a decorative style that is a blend of typical Provencal and a more pared-back touch.
You'll also enjoy Chez David if you like the outdoor life, especially walking and cycling (in fact, if you like cycling, follow us on Strava!). In short, this is a place to recharge your batteries!
The accommodation is surrounded by some of France's most beautiful countryside and villages, just about in-between two of the country's most fabulous cultural gems: Aix and Avignon.
The gite is an old house typical of the region with lots of steps, which means that - in spite of our best efforts - it is not suitable for people with limited mobility or very young children.
Terrace, Dining Room, Lounge, Large kitchen
The light-filled Upstairs Flat, which sleeps two in a large double bed, boasts a large terrace and balcony looking south towards Cézanne's celebrated Mont Sainte Victoire.
Covered Patio, Terrace, Garden
With its vaulted bedroom, patio and terrace - not to mention the wild-ish garden - the cosy Garden flat sleeps two in a large double bed.
Sleeps Four
What do you get if you put the Upstairs Flat and Garden Flat together? A superb two bedroom house where you can share everything - but also enjoy your own private space!
House / Garden Flat
A private, wild-ish garden on two levels with three or four separate outdoor spaces to enjoy a drink or eat surrounded by fig trees, a cherry tree, a vine and much more besides!
Our peaceful gite in the heart of the Luberon is situated in the centre of Vaugines, a peaceful hamlet with a single shop, plus a cafe cum bar and restaurant on the delightful village square.
Vaugines sits atop a hill between the villages of Cucuron and Lourmarin, the final resting place of Albert Camus. One of Vaugines' claim to fame is that parts of Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources were filmed here.
But we're also ideally situated between two of France's most historic, culture-packed towns: Aix and Avignon.
In summer and spring you you can enjoy long, hot days of unbroken sunshine and blue skies... not to mention leisurely evenings eating outside on one of the gite's terraces, in our garden - or on the terrace of the village cafe.
And, of course, the beautiful villages of Cucuron and Lourmarin are just a heartbeat away.
Cycling and walking are two of the favourite pastimes here, together with swimming in the nearby lake at Sannes and horse-riding in and around the village.
Fields of poppies flourish around in May and early June, but it is lavender that is most associated with this part of Provence.
Or maybe sunflowers are more your thing?
And, of course, the region's cultural and historical sites are never far away - Aix or Avignon to name but two.
Chez David is the ideal place to stay for three special events in 2025. Stage 16 of the 2025 Tour de France is climbing Mount Ventoux, Cézanne is visiting Aix with a special exhibition at Musée Granet and then there's the annual Avignon Festival.
All you have to do is ask...
We can organise everything for you from horse-riding to château visiting, from a tour of Marseille to modern art at La Coste.
Want something closer to home? Then Marjorie and Thomas can guide you through a wine-tasting session (just two minutes from the gîte, so you can crawl home!), prepare breakfast on their terrace or introduce you to a selection of the region's cheeses!
And, of course, we can accompany you on a bike tour from your rental accommodation to Lourmarin (5km away) or Ventoux (180 km there and back!
