The gite Chez David is located in countryside halfway between two of Frances's great cultural centres - Avignon and Aix... which makes it the ideal location to celebrate an international exhibition dedicated to Cézanne, which will run from June to October 2025.
It goes without saying that we can organise tickets and arrange transport - with lunch in Aix - for you.
But you don't have to go all the way to Aix to feel Cézanne's touch: nearly every window in our gite has a view of his celebrated Sainte Victoire !
You can find more details at https://cezanne2025.com/en/ - we look forward to hosting you!
Paul Cézanne and Aix-en-Provence are deeply intertwined—Aix was his birthplace, his lifelong home, and the inspiration behind many of his masterpieces.
Cézanne was born in 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, and despite spending time in Paris, he always returned to his hometown. The landscapes of Aix, particularly Montagne Sainte-Victoire, became central to his artistic vision, appearing in numerous paintings that showcase his revolutionary approach to form and color.
Visitors to Aix can explore key Cézanne sites, including:
Jas de Bouffan, his family estate, where he painted many early works.
Atelier des Lauves, his final studio, preserved as it was when he worked there.
Bibémus Quarries, a rugged landscape that inspired his bold use of color and geometric forms.
In 2025, Aix is celebrating Cézanne with Cezanne 2025, a major cultural event featuring exhibitions, site visits, and artistic tributes.
