BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES AND PICTURESQUE VILLAGES
Our rural gite is tucked away in the heart of the small hamlet of Vaugines surrounded by the glorious countryside of Provence's Luberon Regional Natural Park.
The Luberon Regional Natural Park is a stunning protected area spanning the Vaucluse and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence departments of southern France.
The Park covers 165,000 hectares and is situated around the Luberon mountain, known as Mourre Nègre, which is (literally) just behind Chez David (and protects us from the worst of the weather). The park is divided into two massifs by the winding valley road known as the Combe of Lourmarin.
All the photos on this page were taken either within the Luberon or just on its edge. And they were all taken on bicycle tours - meaning they are easily manageable by car!
The "étang" in Cucuron - 3 km from the gîte
The Luberon Regional Natural Park is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including limestone cliffs, forests, vineyards, lavender fields, and wetlands. It is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including rare birds of prey like the Egyptian vulture and Bonelli’s eagle. The park also boasts a unique mix of Mediterranean and Alpine vegetation, creating a fascinating ecological blend.
Beyond its natural beauty, the Luberon is steeped in cultural heritage, with picturesque villages, historic sites, and traditional Provençal architecture. It has been designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a Global Geopark, highlighting its environmental and geological significance.
